Governor's Proposed Agenda Focuses on Basic Needs and Racial Equity

Today, December 1, Governor Kate Brown released her budget for the upcoming biennium with $100.2 billion in total funds spending, including $25.6 billion in General Fund and Lottery Funds.

The budget seeks to prioritize "basic needs" and key challenges during economic uncertainty, and to center equity. The budget includes input from the Racial Justice Council she formed this year, intended to help dismantle systemic racism in Oregon.

While noting that Oregon is in a relatively healthy position to meet future challenges, the Governor is calling on the federal government for additional state stimulus resources and proposing to access the emergency fund to address dire needs in the ongoing COVID-19 response.
