Day to Honor Indigenous Peoples of Oregon: Second Monday of October

House Bill 2526 passed the Legislature today with bipartisan support, making the second Monday of October an official state holiday in honor of Indigenous Peoples. This holiday will create an opportunity to formally recognize and memorialize the oppression and harm done to native communities by colonizers, and to celebrate the many cultures and contributions of indigenous peoples in shaping this place we collectively call home today.

The bill now moves to the Governor's desk for her signature.
