Inauguration Followed by Actions to Protect Immigrants
Biden Begins with Actions to Reverse Anti-Immigration Policies & Introduce New Protections
On the heels of his inauguration address, President Biden issued a series of Executive Orders that reverse multiple anti-immigration policies and introduce new protections, which include:
Reverse the decision to exclude undocumented immigrants from the 2020 Census count
End the Muslim and African travel bans
Preserve and fortify protections for DACAistas and Dreamers
Issue a 100-day moratorium on deportations for select individuals
Reverse Interior Enforcement Order that directed harsh and extreme immigration enforcement
Stop border wall construction
Also on Day 1, a new immigration bill called the U.S. Citizenship Act was introduced with the intent to provide “hardworking people who enrich our communities every day and who have lived here for years, in some cases for decades, an opportunity to earn citizenship."
