City Club: Trust, Disinformation, & Voting Integrity

State of Our Vote.png

RSVP for This Free Event Here

More than one-third of the U.S. residents surveyed by Northwestern, Harvard, Northeastern, and Rutgers Universities in the weeks after the 2020 election said that they lack confidence in the fairness of the 2020 presidential election. That number was twice as high among Trump voters. What's driving this surge in distrust? Is it a sign that many Americans are losing faith in democracy? How can we both improve voting systems and trust in elections?

We'll be joined by civic leaders and scholars who can help us understand the role of disinformation in our elections and what we can do to ensure a free and fair vote. Our guests include:

  • Shemia Fagan, Secretary of State, Oregon

  • Paul Gronke, Professor of Political Science, Reed College

  • Andrew Beers, Human-Centered Design and Engineering (HCDE) PhD student, University of Washington

They'll discuss maintaining voting integrity, protecting everyone’s right to equitable representation, the role of social media and content generators in our election, and more.
