Proposed Summer Enrichment, Academic Support, & Child Care Funding

Summer learning and chilcare investment.png

The House has passed a budget rebalance (now goes to Senate) that includes Summer Learning & Child Care, a restorative $250 million of state funds, that combined with $75 million in federal funds will provide $325 million in grants to school districts and community-based organizations to help students and children learn, thrive, and have fun this summer with investments in summer enrichment and academic support, child care, and early learning.

Students have experienced more emotional distress, more depression, and more anxiety as routines have been upended this last year. The challenges have been greater for low-income families, children with special needs, single-parent households, and communities of color disproportionately impacted by COVID-19.

Contracts for summer programming will be established by mid-May.

We encourage schools and community-based organizations to prioritize culturally-specific and culturally-responsive programming for Latinx students. Start planning for grant proposals this spring. Let's rally to help our children and students maintain well-being and academic success!
